Flat copper baffles

The baffles look nice and worked perfectly for keeping the squirrels off my bird feeders.

So far, so good!

I've only been using these for a few days, but so far the results are great. I have braided wire running between two trees with bird feeders hanging from the wire. Originally, the goal was to keep the feeders out of the reach of black bears, as we live in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. However, it turns out that gray squirrels can do a standing jump from a tree trunk to a feeder 5-6 feet away, 10 feet in the air, and walk the tightrope back to the tree. And if it falls off the wire to the ground, it will walk away unscathed. I tried putting Vaseline on the wire, but they didn't care. I moved the wire in order to put more distance between the trees and feeders, but that didn't help.
My last option was to put a baffle on each end of the wire. I have 25' between the trees. I bought two of these baffles, and put one about 8' from each tree, and about 3' between each baffle and the feeder closest to it. I also added a boat trailer reel at ground level to help me raise the feeders up once I've filled them, since this setup now weighs a fair amount. I've had a seed feeder and a suet feeder up for 1.5 weeks, and the squirrels haven't made it to the feeders yet.
I chose these baffles due to their large diameter. I was afraid a squirrel might be able to crawl over a smaller baffle while walking the tightrope, but that hasn't been an issue so far. We might have a winner!
